What's the Difference?
Why is this Infrared system unique?
Physically, an Infrared Sauna looks no different to other saunas in that it has timber walls, roof, doors etc. What separates 'normal' from FIR is the heating system. They are both electric, but the normal sauna heater uses a free-standing system that heat rocks located on the heater which in turn 'heats' the room and the person in it. It is an atmospheric heat.
An FIR sauna uses heat 'emitters'. They are completely safe, and are already used in your everyday life. Some examples are heat lamps, electric ovens, space heaters, electric bed under-blankets, hair dryers etc. You will have
noticed that the heat radiates from these emitters, but only for a relatively short distance. In an IR sauna several emitters are place in strategic positions for maximum effect. The number of installed emitters is dictated only by the size of the sauna.

Flexibility
The diagram to the left is perfect example of the flexibility of FIR saunas. As you can imagine a normal sauna of this size would not be able to accommodate a standard free-standing heater.
FIR heater emitters can be very compact and have a design flexibility that no other heater can achieve.
In fact infared saunas can be disassembled and packed away in a cupboard!

Health Benefits
This is where the FIR sauna shines!
Yes, other systems have advantages, some more than others. But what makes the infrared sauna unique and beneficial is that it combines ALL the advantages of other sauna systems. One may argue that FIR does not have steam, but it must be remembered that saunas are not meant to be steam baths, and though the occasional ladle full of water on the rocks will create some steam there is no true or long lasting health benefits.
When near infrared (NIR) waves heat organic substances the surface gets hotter than the interior, and the interior gets heated by conduction from the surface. By contrast, far infrared (FIR) penetrates deeply with a very uniform warming effect.
It uses infrared radiant energy to directly penetrate the body's tissues to a depth of over 1 1/2”. Its energy output is tuned to correspond so closely to the body's own radiant energy that our bodies absorb close to 93% of the infrared waves that reach our skin.
One of the reasons FIR has beneficial results in a variety of illnesses is the ability of FIR waves to remove toxins, which are often at the core of many health problems.
Many hospitals use Far Infrared Saunas to help remove heavy metal toxins that accumulate due to the body’s sluggish elimination or exposure. It has been claimed that under a detoxification program that infrared saunas remove mercury toxicity, through the stool, hair and urine.
The Infrared Sauna utilizes a dry environment and lower temperatures (120°-180° F).
This allows greater tolerance for longer, deeper heating of tissues; promotes profuse perspiration; and provides the beneficial metabolic, circulatory, immunological, and dermatological effects.
Conversely, other types of sauna operate at much higher humidity and higher temperatures,
often causing discomfort, circulatory constriction, limited perspiration, reduced tolerance, and only superficial physiological effect.
Below is a short list of
the systematic benefits of FIR.
-
FIR waves reach into the cell and create water molecule resonance
-
The waves then produce atomic molecule resonance
-
Energy conversion occurs through absorption
-
It forms an effect on the heart
-
It enters to the subcutaneous cell layer
-
Temperature is elevated
-
Capillary dilation takes place
-
Extravasated blood and congested toxins are excreted
-
Cells are activated
-
Organ cells are repaired and protected
-
The formation of enzymes is promoted

The over-arching benefits are:
Elevates the temperature of subcutaneous layers, thus expanding blood capillaries, stimulating blood circulation, increasing metabolism between blood and tissue, promoting tissue regeneration and reducing cramping.
Penetrates 1˝ to 2 inches (4-5 centimeters) into the dermis (middle layer of skin) from muscles into blood vessels, lymphatic glands and nerves.
Affects every living cell and produces warmth. Through this cell tissue "micro-friction" and the vibration of molecular resonance, chemicals within cells are activated.
The warming effect is helpful in eliminating such things as the waste products generated by aging, heavy metals and toxic substances, which are then secreted by the sweat and dermis-layer fat glands.
Adjust the autonomic nerve function and reduces the over-stimulation of sensory nerves.
People, especially those who feel the effects of high temperatures in a normal sauna, are surprised by the amount of enjoyment and how soothing the infrared experience is.
If you know someone with an infrared sauna give them a call and try it out!
