Portable Steam Sauna |
||||
|
As with the infrared sauna the steam sauna can come as a portable unit. But as mentioned in a previous article you need to be aware that portable may not necessarily mean truly portable...just 'transportable'. But ALL the examples below are definitely steam saunas. |

below give you some idea of what 'portable' may mean.
Trans-portable Portable Portable steam saunas are often referred to as steam capsules. The walls and doors are usually made from a durable polycarbonate material which is also used in airplane windows, while the top and base are made from a light weight durable plastic. But as you can see from the diagram above, some portable steam saunas truly means portable. These units can be folded into a neat package and put in the cupboard!
When
disassembled, they can often compress into the size of a small suitcase. Plug
them into a standard electrical outlet. The average power usage is 11
Amps of electricity at 120V. This
equates to around 10cents per average session. A
quart of distilled water allows for approximately 40 minutes of steam
time. Temperatures can vary but they are mostly around the 115 – 120ºF
with a warm up time of around 10-15 minutes. The
water pot in the base is totally self contained.
The condensation on the wall and door runs down the sides and
back into the sump in the base of the unit, and can be easily emptied at
the end of the steam period. The use of distilled water has a very real distinct advantage over many installed steam sauna systems that often use chlorinated water. Chlorine and other substances in public water once vaporized can be inhaled through the lungs and absorbed through the skin.
