Types
of Saunas "Kit's"
The ULTIMATE test as to
whether it's a sauna kit or not is this...
"A sauna kit is
a complete unit that the purchaser...without any real skills...can fully
assemble, plug into the power socket, turn it on and start using straight
away...ALL within a few hours!"
...no matter what the website, literature
or advertising state...that is a sauna kit.
First, we will look at the terminology.
Then, based on this terminology, an example of what you should expect from
the supplier of that particular product.
Sauna Kits
As the term suggests, when you order a 'kit' everything should be included.
Walls, roof, base, door, bench/s, heater etc. Even though all the panels should fit together without the need for many tools you
do need to be comfortable with the idea of assembly.
Prefabricated - (pre-fab)
Normally the same meaning as pre-cut. Refer below.
Pre-Cut
To keep the advertised price at a minimum, either intentionally or not, some manufactures supply pre-cut saunas that include the main panels, roof and a door, but
not much else. These should not be
confused with sauna kits.
Pre-Built
Again, this is basically the same as Pre-cut. Believe it or not some
suppliers actually supply the full kit, yet still call it "pre-built
sauna". So you need to be mindful.

What's
in a Sauna Kit?
In short...EVERYTHING to get started!
The amount of timber will of course be
determined by the size of the unit purchased, so the BASIC check list
of items below will constitute a Sauna Kit:
- Delivery by the supplier/manufacturer
- Detailed assembly instructions
- Detailed operational
instructions
- Tongue & groove (T&G)
timber clear, kiln-dried, softwood (e.g. cedar)
- Roof
- Wall panels
- Door (hinged on the appropriate side)
- Base
- Bench/s
- Vents
- Heater, including the rocks (for infrared
saunas - heat
emitters)
- Heater guard
- Temperature/timer control panel
- All wiring, including the power plug
for connection to the wall socket
- Waterproofing (dependant on the type
of sauna)
- Interior light
- Fixtures and fitting (hinges, nails,
screws etc)
Extras: To completely
enjoy the sauna experience you will need to purchase sauna accessories such as towels, water
bucket, ladle, loofah etc.
That's it! Health for the rest of
your life.
Here's
the Trap!
As mentioned previously, some
manufacturers and marketing companies, either intentionally or not, list
information that is clearly in the gray area of sauna kits.
Below is an example list of items a
supplier (remain unnamed) has listed on their website. And, among
other relevant information they have also quoted the following:
"Our pre-cut sauna is great for the person looking for the ease in
assembling a kit but wanting more flexibility in the layout."

Observation:
1. They quote "assembling a kit". To the unwary
this is deceiving, because...
2. The 'standard features' list does not
include the heater. (as highlighted in the 'Optional Features'),
and clearly a sauna kit is not a kit without a heater!
The vast majority of sauna
kit suppliers do not intentionally mislead the consumer. It is
the terminology that is misleading.
Take your time...plan...ask
questions...and don't over spend.
It's too late once it's been
delivered!
